17th Executive Committee President’s Message
Dear NUS Psychology Community,
Hope that all of you are having a great (or at least survivable) semester thus far! My team and I are deeply humbled to have been elected as the 17th Executive Committee (17th EXCO), and are excited to build on the great foundations established by the 16th Executive Committee. While the end of the pandemic will bring about great opportunities to bring the Psychology Committee closer together, these possibilities signify higher expectations for the next batch of EXCO to deliver.
Thankfully, I have a well-rounded team who are ready to surmount these expectations. Introducing the 17th Executive Committee!
Eugene Low Yi Heng (President) – @ewgenelow
Cladys Lian Hui Xin (Vice-President) – @cladyslian
Valerie Lim (Honorary General Secretary)
Ruth Lai Ru En (Assistant Honorary General Secretary)
Poh Chen Faye (Treasurer)
Charlyn Boh (Director of Academics)
Ang Jun Ray (Director of Marketing)
Lim Shi Qi Victoria (Director of Publicity)
Roann Chew Wan Lin (Director of Welfare)
Coming into AY22/23, the fabric of our psychology community remains as diverse. We are individuals at different phases of life, some of us lacking meaning but choosing to live in the moment, some of us knowing where we want to go but finding it difficult to get there. We are individuals with different career aspirations. We are individuals who have formed unique perspectives and beliefs. Yet all of us are bonded by a common passion for a subject and by friends in psychology whom we confide in. As the next batch of EXCO, it is our task to bring this unique bunch closer together, to show that you are not a psychology student merely for the modules you take, but also for the community of support that surrounds you.
To serve the NUS psychology community better, the 17th EXCO has highlighted 3 key goals that we wish to focus on in the upcoming year, namely:
(a) Listening more to the needs of the psychology community
– Building a wider outreach to increase our touchpoints with the community
– Actively seeking feedback from the psychology community
– Ensure that the needs of our community are met for every initiative
(b) Forming a closer psychology community
– Prioritising the connections that can be made from initiatives
– Building long term initiatives that can allow for the maintenance of connections among members
– Increasing the quantity of welfare initiatives for community
(c) Providing stronger support for current and prospective students
– Becoming the primary source of information for academic queries
– Spreading information on mental wellness support
– Strengthening collaborations with external organisations
The 17th EXCO has high hopes of achieving all 3 key goals by the end of our term. It is ambitious, (I’m not going to lie I have my own doubts for sure…), but that is not going to stop us from trying, because we understand that addressing these needs is the best way to help our community. We hope that you, as part of our large NUS psychology community, can continue to support us in the initiatives that we run so that we know if our community’s needs are being met. We look forward to bringing you more welfare, more academic guidance and more interactions with our psychology community!
If you read through this entire message, thank you (time very well spent). Have a great semester ahead!
Best regards,
Eugene Low (Mr)

Dear Members,
A year has passed since the 16th Psychology Society Executive Committee (ExCo) took up leadership of our society, and so much has happened since! It is my great pleasure to address you today, as we look back at what the society has accomplished, and prepare for the future by selecting the 17th ExCo, to whom we will entrust leadership of the society for the upcoming year.
Before I continue, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of my fellow ExCo members, the subcommittee and project teams members, society members, our staff advisors, the University, and last but not least, the NUS Psychology community. Without your unwavering support and enthusiasm, none of our accomplishments would have been possible.
I would like to start by reviewing the past year. Given the COVID-19 situation, the first few initiatives the society launched were mostly conducted online. Nonetheless, the team worked very hard to ensure that the initiatives would be useful, appealing, and accessible to our community. These include Psychology Appreciation Week (PAW) I, during which a series of initiatives to support our community through the exam periods were launched. It was also during this time that our beloved mascot, Polly the Psychology Otter, was introduced. Following this were the NUS Psychology merchandise sales. Not only were previous designs of merchandise made available, but new designs of T-shirts, tote bags, and laptop stickers were also created by the team. During PAW II, when the COVID-19 situation had improved, a well-decorated booth was set up prominently on campus, to distribute free welfare packs to Psychology students, facilitate merchandise sales, and be an encouraging and cheery presence as we prepared for our assessments. The team is extremely grateful to have had these opportunities to cater to the wellbeing of our community.
In addition to welfare, the 16th ExCo also understands the importance of academic and career-related events. Hence, we worked to secure opportunities for our students to interact with professionals in Psychology-related industries, through initiatives such as Ask-Me-Anything (AMAs), Career Talks, and the Welcome Tea. We partnered with other societies to organise the UniPsych Symposium. The society’s website was also revamped, and furnished with new module reviews. And in the spirit of exploring the use of Psychology in our everyday lives, new episodes of the InPsychOut podcast were released. We have been encouraged by your positive feedback for our initiatives, and once again thank you for all your support.
I would also like to make a quick mention of Psychology Camp 2022. Held for three days in the summer of 2022, the camp provided Psychology freshmen with a warm welcome into our Psychology community, and guided them in navigating University life as freshmen.
I will close my address by speaking about an important reason why we are gathered today, which is to select the 17th ExCo from the nominees who have courageously stepped up. The ExCo who are elected today will be the ones spearheading the future initiatives and events that we will experience. They will be the ones catering to the needs of our community. I wholeheartedly wish them all the best in their endeavours, as they overcome the challenges that may come their way, and make steady progress in serving our community. It is my sincerest hope that you would give them the kind of enthusiastic support you have given us. Thank you very much for everything, and take care!
Best wishes,
Ramesh Yoheshwer

Welcome to the official website for NUS Psychology Society!
Psychology – the scientific study of the human mind
The Psychology Society is a student-led body that acts as bridge between Psychology majors, Psychology major alumnus, the Psychology Department as well as various external organisations. It aims to promote Psychology not just to Psychology students but for anyone and everyone who has an interest in Psychology. It also aims to promote the welfare of current members of Psychology society and to create a tight-knit group of like-minded individuals.
This year, we plan to bring back everything we love from last year such as the popular Prison tours, IMH tours and Lab tours for anyone interested in what we really do (besides reading your mind of course). We’ve also lined up a series of academic talks for you to be more exposed and informed on the career prospects in the field of Psychology. For students who wish to give back to society (and not our own), we’ve still got volunteer opportunities with organizations such as the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the Institute of Mental Health (IMH). For those of you still not drawn in by our extensive list of benefits, we’re still having our Psychology Appreciation Week (PAW) which includes Wear-Your-Psych-Shirt Day, Welfare Pack Distributions and Appreciation Letters to Staff and more!
Of course, you must first be a member if you are wish to be informed and to have priority for these events. It’s simple! Send an email to nuspsyche@gmail.com indicating your interest to be a member and for just $5 you get a lifetime membership! Our pre-requisites, being a Psychology society, is that you must have a mind! Otherwise, we gladly welcome all NUS students, regardless of their major, into the Society, so we hope you would join us soon!
For anyone who feels that they can and they wish to contribute to the society in one way or another, let us know by sending an email to nuspsyche@gmail.com. We are always looking for new members, event helpers, and even ideas! Thank you for your continued support in Psychology society and we wish everyone the best for the year ahead of us!

Welcome to the official website for NUS Psychology Society!
The society is a student-led body that acts as a bridge between students in FASS studying Psychology, Psychology major alumnus, the Psychology Department as well as various external organisations. Its goal is to foster a cohesive community with an interest in all things pertaining to the broad field of Psychology. The Society not only organises events such as talks and tours related to Psychology, but also strives to promote the welfare of our members.
This year, Psychology Appreciation Week (PAW) makes its return once in each semester. Comprising Wear-Your-Psych-Shirt Day, Welfare Pack Distributions and Appreciation Letters to Staff, PAW is the period to show pride and gratitude for the major that we love and the people in them. Prison tours, IMH tours and Lab tours will also be lined up for those who are interested in what goes on behind closed doors. Talks and seminars this year are also coming back, only bigger and better. Apart from the usual annual Academic Talks, NUS Psychology Society is also working with the Duke-NUS Cognitive Neuroscience Lab to organise specialised topical talks relating to cognitive neuroscience and – hold your breath – more internship opportunities! With so many activities to look forward to, do keep a look out on this space and our Facebook page for registration details.
Of course, only members will have priority access to these events. The good news is that if you’re not a member, all you need to do is send an email to nuspsyche@gmail.com requesting for membership at your convenience and a lifetime membership that entails priority access to events, first-hand information about internships and volunteering opportunities, and an invitation to attend the Annual General Meeting is yours for only $5! We gladly welcome all NUS students, regardless of their major, into the Society, so we hope you would join us soon!
Joining us as a member automatically places you in our mailing list. Unfortunately, if you are not a member, in light of the new Personal Data Protection Act, we are unable to send information of events without your prior consent. If you’re thinking of spending your time in a meaningful way during your university life, members are welcome to volunteer at our events with organisations we have partnerships with such as the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the Institute of Mental Health (IMH). We will also be recruiting committee members for Psychology Camp from December 2015 to February 2016, so stay tuned for that!
